IMPERFECT BEAUTY OF ASIAN CITIES
My visual story about inconspicuous but special places in an Asian cities. After a few years of traveling and working as an architect and artist in Asia I created a chain of paintings devoted to disappearing magic places which contribute to the unique atmosphere of the city. These places are living off the secrets of their inhabitants, which are written only into building’s walls. There are places that have not been changed for hundred years. They take up a precious space in the city, therefore they are going to disappear with time, absorbed by modernity. Nobody cares about the old walls of their buildings. However, each wall can tell us a story. They saw how the Argyle Street Camp emptied and officers moved to the camp at Sham Shui Po, how a fire from the street stalls climbed the walls of Mr Tsang”s house, and police fired tear gas to fight the crowd of protesters against extraditions to China.Rich textures on the walls, contrasts, random compositions drawn by nature, as well as wide color ranges remind us of abstract paintings. Looking at this apparent chaos, we can discover its beauty, its never ending hustle, diversity, its hundreds of neon lights, its sleeplessness…
